IRON INFUSIONS AT IVILOUNGE
Learn step by step what to expect from your iron infusion at ivilounge, from your initial consultation to your follow-up appointment.
To carry out an iron infusion, we require a current iron level (ferritin) that is no older than three months.

The analysis is carried out via our partner laboratory, Viollier. Results are usually available within 24 hours.
The lab costs for all values we determine amount to approximately CHF 60.– and are billed directly through your health insurance. Depending on your deductible and co-payment, you may receive a corresponding invoice directly from your health insurance provider.
For organizing, evaluating, and discussing the lab analysis, we charge a service fee of CHF 150.–. This will be fully credited towards a subsequent iron infusion.
The iron infusion usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes.

Thanks to the moderate dosage per infusion, the risk of side effects and allergic reactions can be reduced. At the same time, the body is given sufficient time to optimally absorb and store the iron.
Should two infusions be indicated, these are carried out two weeks apart.
When does an iron infusion make sense?
In women, the optimal ferritin level is often between 80 and 100 µg/l. Since every person is different, we always assess lab values individually, taking into account your symptoms and personal situation as well.
An iron infusion can also make sense if the ferritin level is above 30 µg/l but typical symptoms of iron deficiency are already present, such as:

If a vitamin B12 deficiency is also identified, the vitamin B12 can be combined directly with the iron infusion. This allows for efficient treatment of both deficiencies in a single session.
If you currently have an acute infection, such as the flu, a cold, or another febrile illness, we recommend waiting with the iron infusion until you have fully recovered.
During an acute illness, symptoms such as fatigue, body aches, or general malaise may be felt more intensely. In addition, the body should first use its energy for recovery. For this reason, we only carry out iron infusions once you are healthy again, whenever possible.
Regular monitoring
For known iron deficiency, we recommend checking iron levels approximately every six months. Since every person is different, the optimal monitoring interval may vary. If typical symptoms recur earlier, we recommend an earlier check-up.
IRON INFUSION AT IVILOUNGE
Cost coverage should be clarified directly with your health insurance provider in advance.
In general, many health insurers only cover the costs of iron infusions when ferritin levels are very low (often below 10 µg/l). We are happy to issue you a reimbursement receipt for your health insurance upon request.
The lab analysis is usually billed through your health insurance. However, whether and to what extent costs are incurred depends on your personal deductible and co-payment.
Iron infusions are generally very well tolerated. In the first one to two days after treatment, mild fatigue or slight headaches may occasionally occur. These symptoms are usually temporary and resolve on their own.
Many patients report an improvement in their well-being and energy as early as the third day after the infusion.
The full effect typically unfolds after about 10 to 14 days.
For known iron deficiency, we recommend a check-up approximately every six months.
Since iron requirements vary from person to person, an earlier check-up may be advisable, especially if typical symptoms such as fatigue, exhaustion, or hair loss reoccur.
